Shang Lake, Changshu, China – November 14, 2015. Shang Lake in China is proving to be an incredibly difficult battleground and the Chinese Perch, Top Mouth Culter and Yellow Cheek Carp, formidable adversaries.
45 of the world’s most talented kayak anglers again took off from the Power-Pole starting line competing for the title of Hobie® Fishing World Champion in foggy conditions. Winds were light throughout the day and the sun broke through burning off the fog by mid morning. Unfortunately, the change in conditions did not seem to excite the fish and only two anglers presented fish to the scorers during competition.
Day one leader Li Haiyang, from China brought a second Top Mouth Culter to the scorers today measuring 34cm increasing his aggregate length to 99 centimetres and maintaining his number one position with 45 points for the species. Speaking on stage in front of a large crowd of Chinese and international spectators Mr. Li said that he was very pleased with the result and was confident that he could catch one of the other species in the final session.
Ian ‘Dizzy’ Harris from the UK also managed to land one of the elusive target species. Ian’s Top Mouth Culter measured 36cm centimetres placing him second against Mr. Li. When asked about his plan for day three Harris said. “I’ll probably do more of the same, it worked today. There’s fish there and it’s still pretty open. Someone could have a good day tomorrow and still take the title.”
Despite the adverse fishing, the spirits of the anglers remains high and the spirit and tradition of the Hobie Fishing World Championship continues to bring together competitors from all over the world in a meeting of minds and a battle of wills.
The experience has been one of camaraderie as anglers have shared a difficult time on the water as well as experienced a taste of what China has to offer. Cultural demonstrations from Opera to Chinese Dragons, Magicians and Fireworks, the host nation, Hobie Cat® and the sponsors have pulled out all the stops in making this a Worlds to remember.
At the close of day three the anglers will again adjust their plans and hope for a change that will bring on the bite during the final session, we wish all of them the very best of luck for the last day of the 2015 Hobie Fishing World Championship presented by Rhino Rack.
The 5th Hobie Fishing World Championship is proudly supported by Rhino-Rack, Lowrance, Power-Pole, Yak-Attack, Daiwa, Ram Mounts, Lurefans, The Chinese Angling Association and Kayak Fishing Beijing.
